Exploring Rest
a still pool reflecting the last glow of light
In the transition from day to night I guide you through a sequence of movements intending toward restfulness. It is not a to do list or a set of instructions. It is a way of allowing language to filter into an exploration of how rest and activity live in your body.
It’s about being present with yourself in kindness and acceptance of what is, experiencing the movement and stillness within you.
It is a recognition of internal tensions, places of comfort, and rhythms that filter into your consciousness as you tend toward rest.
I encourage you to receive sensation from elsewhere in your body into the back of your brain and let everything else go. Wait and breathe in the pause.
Consider these questions . . .
What is the sound of quiet within you?
What is the rhythm of rest within you?
Can you let yourself stay in the feeling of rest, letting go of thinking and allowing image, sound, and/or sensation to rise and drift?
Can you stay with the places that change within you and the places that stay the same while letting emotions and thoughts surface and recede without holding onto them?
Can you let yourself ride within a stream of sensory experience?
Gravity, the earth beneath you and space around you help you drop into the support surrounding you and be cradled in active rest.
As you experience many ways to slow down you acquire skills you need to easily change from a more active outward-focused day to a more restful evening intending toward sleep.
